ABOUT OUR SCHOOL
The history of
GOVT.MODEL VHSS & HSS for BOYS , Thevally,under the control of Kollam
Corporation, is connected with the great king Swathy Thirunal (1829 – 1847)
,the ruler of modern Travancore.The Mahraja opened an English school at
Travancore in 1834 which was converted into
‘The Raja’s Free School’ in 1836.District schools were also opened simultaneously as
feeders to this central institution and
thus the first English School in Kollam district came to be
established*.As per this decision a
district school building was
constructed in the compound
where our present school is situated. The school was opened as a primary
school, in the beginning, with the name “His Highness Maharaja’s English
School”.
The present two storeyed
hidh school block was built in 1887 .Till 1917 only boys were given admission
to this school. Since the number of girls exceeded upto 450, the school had to be divided into
Boys High School and Girl high school in the year 1950.By 1960 this school
grown to the biggest and most prominent
school in Kollam District . Today, in addition to UP (Malayalam & English
Medium) and High School (Malayalam, English & Tamil Medium), we have 10th
Equalency Centre and District Resource for the Gifted Children. We also have VHSE course (since 1990)
,District Open School Centre, Kerala University BEd training Centre and Higher
Secondary section functioning in this school compound.
Our higher secondary school
started functioning in the tiled old block from 1997 .After five years, we had
a new separate building of our own. By this, time we could attain enormous
success in both carricular activities , especially in arts. In the remarkable
year 2007, in the State Youth Festival, our school had bagged the Ever
Rolling Silver Cup given for the overall championship.No Govt. higher secondary school has ever secured this cup before and after
this.We are still maintaining this brilliant
performance in the district and state level kalolsavam.
Each and every year our
students bring the top places and trophies in the Science,Social science,and
Work Experience fairs.In the academic field our students have showed excellent
performance ,by increasing the number the students scoring A+ grade in all
subjects and full scores (1200/1200) in every annual Higher Secondary
Examination.
Our school is eagerly waiting
for the tremendous progress and victory in academic and non academic sphere in
the forthcoming years.
